We are excited to share the fifth episode of Vital Voices Season 3, a podcast of the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation.
This episode’s transcript is available here.
On today’s episode, I speak with Andrew Dwyer, PhD, FNP-BC, a board-certified family nurse practitioner and Associate Professor of Nursing at Boston College’s William F. Connell School of Nursing. Dr. Dwyer also has expertise in genomics and rare diseases and is committed to advancing equity in health care through the use of genomics in nursing.
An estimated 27 million nurses worldwide are caring for patients on the front lines. The importance of proper training cannot be overstated. Dr. Dwyer knows firsthand the power of proper clinical training and the difference it can make in health outcomes. We discuss how he will use his Macy Faculty Scholar award to develop, implement, and evaluate novel training experiences to equip advanced practice nurses with genomic competencies needed to address genetic conditions. Doing so would reduce health disparities and “reap the full benefit of genomic discovery for all people,” as Dr. Dwyer said.
As always, we hope that you will share the podcast with your social media networks. Look for episode six next week. If you are interested in hearing more about the Macy Faculty Scholars Program, we encourage you to check out our website and subscribe to Vital Voices wherever you get your podcasts.
