The Interprofessional Training and Education at Cornell-Hunter (ITEACH) program that has been a Macy-supported project since 2010, was featured in a February 4 Modern Healthcare article for being a medical education model that is adapting to both the needs of a 21st century healthcare system and provisions of the Affordable Care Act.
The article, titled “Obamacare Transforms Med School,” details how the ITEACH program is bringing nursing, public health and social work students from Hunter College together with medical students studying at Weill Cornell Medical School to learn about teamwork. The course, now entering its third year, is designed to provide students with the competencies they need to work in collaborative health teams—teams that will be needed as the ACA continues to be implemented.
As stated in the article and several recent reports, reforming the medical education system will be critical to reforming our health care system and ensuring we provide high quality care in the future.
