Today, the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation issued a set of recommendations to guide health professions educators in moving away from the traditional time-based educational system toward a competency-based, time-variable system in which students advance after required competencies and skills have been mastered.
- Read the report: Achieving Competency-Based, Time-Variable Health Professions Education
The recommendations stem from a June 2017 Macy Conference that brought together 39 health professions educators in medicine, nursing, and pharmacy as well as experts in educational theory and reform, medical residents, and education and residency program accreditors.
The report outlines actionable recommendations in five areas, providing a blueprint for designing and implementing competency-based, time-variable health professions education systems.
- We plan to host a webinar discussion in October in which we will discuss the recommendations. Stay tuned for details and a link to RSVP.
