Coretta Jenerette

PhD, RN, AOCN, CNE, FAAN University of South Carolina College of Nursing

Coretta Jenerette is the incoming Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity at the University of South Carolina College of Nursing. She is dedicated to educating future nurse scientists about the role of social determinants of health (SDH) on health outcomes. Currently, she is using her internationally recognized, patient-centered program of research in sickle cell disease to exemplify the importance of communication skills for vulnerable patient populations.

As a Macy Faculty Scholar, Dr. Jenerette will focus on enhancing PhD programs with simulations that expose PhD students to the social determinants of health (SDH) and interprofessional education (IP/IPE). Simulation experiences will enhance current PhD curricula offerings and allow future nurse scientists to be well-versed in community-engaged research with minority and underserved populations. Development of “Simulation in PhD Programs” (SiPP) will be designed to meet unmet needs of PhD nursing students, including SDH and IPE activities.

Debra J. Barksdale, PhD, FNP, FAAN, ANEF, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, serves as Dr. Jenerette’s mentor.
