Grant Application Review & Decisions
Eligibility before Application Review
General information about eligibility can be found in the FAQs. Detailed information about eligibility for a specific RFA can be found on those webpages.
Application Review
We review applications to ensure receipt of all required materials and that the submission meets eligibility requirements. Applications are then evaluated based on their alignment with the Foundation’s priorities, potential impact on health professions education, engagement with learners, scalability, quality, and focus on improving the clinical learning environment. For Board Grant RFAs, we frequently rely on both internal staff and external reviewers to evaluate applications.
Decisions: Board Grants
Following internal and external review, those applications recommended for funding are presented to the Foundation’s Board of Directors for evaluation and approval. Decisions are generally made at our regular Board meetings (mid-January, mid-May, mid-October).
Decisions: President’s Grants
Applications are reviewed by Foundation staff and awarded at the discretion of the President. Decisions are generally made within one to two months of application submission.
All decisions are communicated via email through our grant management portal.
Awards & Reporting
Approved applicants will work with the Foundation to finalize award details. Grantees are required to submit annual and/or final narrative and financial reports to the Foundation to share details on the progress and success of the project. All reporting will be done through the Foundation’s grant management portal.

We are specifically interested in projects that focus on the clinical learning environment.
We do not accept unsolicited Board Grant proposals. We will accept and review applications for active RFAs and President’s Grants.
Due to the small size of our staff, we cannot meet with potential applicants. If you have questions after reviewing our website, you may submit them to info@macyfoundation.org.
Given the small size of our staff and the volume of applications we receive, we simply do not have the capacity to provide individualized feedback to all applicants. As much as we would like to be able to do so, we could not sustain that level of response while maintaining our other grantmaking responsibilities.
Indirect costs are permitted up to 10% of the total budget, including subcontracts.
