Funding Innovations in Health Professions Education
The Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation supports projects and initiatives that improve the education of health professionals and strengthen the healthcare workforce. Through President’s Grants and Board (approved grants, and targeted RFAs that align with our mission and strategic priorities), the Foundation invests in innovative ideas that advance health professions education and ultimately improve care for the communities health professionals serve.

Our Grant Programs
The Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation supports projects that advance our mission through two primary grantmaking initiatives: Board Grants and President’s Grants.
Board Grants
Typically funded for 1-3 years, Board Grants are designed to address important topics and emerging challenges within health professions education. Every year, usually in January, we issue a competitive request for applications (RFA) that details the scope and parameters of the grant effort and solicits proposals for demonstration projects from clinical faculty at eligible institutions.
President’s Grants
President’s Grants align with our priority areas and are awarded at the discretion of our President following initial evaluation by Foundation staff. The one-year grants do not exceed $25,000 and are intended to support innovative and creative ideas which might build to larger and more expansive curricular initiatives. We give priority to projects in the clinical learning environment that directly engage learners and to projects that utilize AI in innovative ways to meet our priority areas.
Open Grant Opportunities
President’s Grants
President’s Grants must align with our priority areas, are limited to one year in duration, and do not exceed $25,000 (inclusive of indirect costs, which are capped at 10%).
