Our Priorities
We aim to prepare future health professionals to meet the needs of 21st century patients, who are more diverse and likely to live longer than any previous generation.
Explore Our Priorities
We focus our grantmaking and other work around three priority areas. Evidence tells us that these priorities are critical to improving educational outcomes for learners and health outcomes for patients.

1
Promoting Diversity, Equity and Belonging
Like other science-informed, health-focused organizations, institutions, and agencies around the world, we are committed to advancing health equity and reducing health disparities. We contribute to these broad societal goals by investing in evidence-based efforts to build diversity, equity, and inclusion in health professions learning environments. We want everyone who learns, works, and teaches in clinical environments to feel like they belong and have the opportunity to thrive.

2
Increasing Collaboration Among Future Health Professionals
We know that optimal health care is coordinated, team-based, and patient-centered, but most future health professionals continue to be taught as autonomous experts in their respective disciplines. We support the development of new educational models that enable health professions students to train in and learn from high-performing clinical care teams. These efforts bring together learners from nursing, medicine, pharmacy, social work, public health, and other health professions to learn and practice effective teamwork from faculty and other professional colleagues—in real-world or simulated interdisciplinary clinical environments.

3
Preparing Future Health Professionals to Navigate Ethical Dilemmas
Health professions education often focuses primarily on ensuring that learners acquire the scientific knowledge and clinical skills they need to provide excellent patient care. This leaves little time to help them develop their professional values or learn to navigate ethical dilemmas, but these are critical topics that can help learners strengthen their resilience, protect their well-being, and enhance their abilities to care for their patients. We support educators’ efforts to equip future health professionals with essential tools that will help them manage ethical challenges, moral injuries, professional conflicts, and the many complex, stress-inducing situations that health professionals encounter regularly.
