Enhancing Research Literacy in the Academic Institutions of the Integrative Health Disciplines
Academic Collaborative for Integrative Health (ACIH)
This award is to support ACCAHC’s initiative to “Enhance Research Literacy.” Partners across alternative and complementary medicine have joined forces with ACCAHC to address research literacy and evidence-based practice. This is an important step in training practitioners across multiple disciplines to incorporate research evidence into practice and to promote interprofessional understanding and practice.
Principal Investigator: John Weeks, ACCAHC executive director, has extensive experience organizing and convening new communities of learning and action, a focus of this Phase II of this project. Early experience (1978-1985) as a community organizer informed his work to convene the 11-discipline National Education Dialogue to Advance Integrated Health Care (2005-2006) and co-founding and direction of ACCAHC itself, with numerous interprofessional academic working groups and task forces. The day-to-day work was performed by Deborah Hill, MS (Chemistry), MS (Physiology & Biochemistry). She brings a terrific combination of love of science/evidence and the real world experience in “cold-calling” via 10 years in pharmaceutical sales. Hill also has strong relationships within ACCAHC and its partners on the project via her recent internship, which focused on Phase I of this project, for her second MS, at Georgetown MS. We invested in her relationships to ACCAHC via flying her to the ACCAHC Biennial Meeting in June 2013.
