You Belong Here: Creating an Inclusive UME to GME Transition for International Medical Graduates
University of Maryland Capital Region Health
This project will develop an intensive residency orientation to promote an equitable transition for international medical graduates (IMGs), who make up approximately 25% of internal medicine residents in the US. The investigators identified core competencies of systems-based practice and interpersonal communication as specific challenges. Further, many IMGs lack the context for social and structural determinants of health. This model will also lay foundations for self-evaluation, understanding of interdisciplinary teaming, and deeper understanding of the patient population they will serve.

Transforming Interprofessional Education Through Student Hotspotting
Emory University
The Atlanta Interprofessional Student Hotspotting program addresses the need for more experiential interprofessional education by fostering collaborative, patient-centered care among high-cost, high-need patients and teams of 5-7 students from local medical, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, and social work programs. These teams will create patient-driven care plans addressing both medical and social/structural determinants of health. This approach encourages long-term team relationships and real-world learning, overcoming the limitations of traditional IPE curricula.
