Time’s up: Closing the Gender Gap in Medicine and Science
Center for Women in Academic Medicine and Science
Principal Investigator: Jeanette Mladenovic MD, MBA, MACP will serve as the principal investigator of this grant. I have a 36-year career in academic medicine, and was privileged to serve for the entirety of it in administrative roles in several institutions.(see uploaded resume for detail). These experiences have giving me a broad understanding of the academic health center, the requirements for success in academia, and specifically, the challenges that women face in advancing to leadership roles. Throughout my career, I have worked with several entities in organized medicine; engaged with diverse local and international communities to build new enterprises, and helped lead innovative initiatives in an attempt to reach new solutions. I have significant and extensive strategic and operations experience, most recently overseeing a 16,000-person academic health center, including both its scientific and academic enterprises. Since my departure from this role, I have used my background and skills to improve the outcomes of healthcare disputes through a new approach (Healthcare Dispute Resolutions Group). And, I have invested my energy in developing a strategy to address the gender gap for women in medicine and science, as described in this proposal. I am an internist/hematologist, who was a Professor (tenured) in four universities, ran a federally-funded laboratory for 18 years, and remained clinically active throughout my career.
